Site Reliability Engineer

About the role

Arbor Education is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Site Reliability Engineer to join its SRE team and help ensure world-class resilience and performance across the platform. The role advises on availability, scalability, observability and capacity planning, and suits an energetic, collaborative engineer ready for a challenge.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor and analyse platform performance proactively, and collaborate with engineering teams to fix bottlenecks and ensure scalability
• Help implement and review SLOs, and improve observability through monitoring, alerting and dashboards (e.g. DataDog or Prometheus)
• Keep the service highly available and resilient, championing high-availability design patterns
• Run DR tests, H/A and backup drills, and assess capacity and plan for scaling
• Work with the Head of Platform Engineering and Head of SRE, and with the Platform, feature teams, 2nd line support and other stakeholders
• Take part in incident response and troubleshooting, and run blameless postmortems
• Develop and maintain playbooks and documentation

Required profile

• 7-12 years of experience
• Experience in performance monitoring and analysis, and capacity planning
• Familiarity with SRE processes and DevOps principles (the 3 ways and 5 ideals)

Required skills

• Scripting and automation, and Infrastructure as Code, especially Terraform
• Relational databases and their cloud versions (e.g. AWS Aurora)
• Messaging and distributed asynchronous workloads
• Nginx or similar technologies
• Desired: other databases and cloud platforms, enterprise-scale experience, Docker, Kanban and Agile, and practices such as refactoring, clean code, DDD and TDD
