Senior Specialist, AI Engineering

About the role

MSD, a global healthcare biopharma company, is hiring a Senior/Principal AI Engineer in Hyderabad (Hitec City Raidurg). The role drives end-to-end development of GenAI applications, including prompt engineering, fine-tuning, RAG pipelines and LLM-based workflows, with high standards of performance, scalability and responsible AI. It involves technical leadership, mentoring teams and turning complex AI capabilities into business solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement Agentic AI systems using frameworks such as LangChain, Google ADK, Strands and Semantic Kernel, with multi-step reasoning and task orchestration.
• Operationalize multi-agent systems with planning, tool usage, memory and iterative reasoning.
• Apply prompt engineering techniques (ReAct, few-shot learning, chain-of-thought, prompt chaining).
• Set up AgentOps practices: observability, tracing, logging and performance monitoring.
• Build multimodal AI solutions combining text with images or structured data.
• Use harness engineering to design, test and evaluate AI/agent workflows.
• Develop reusable agent tooling and integrations, including Model Context Protocol (MCP) and Agent-to-Agent communication.
• Work with stakeholders to turn business problems into scalable GenAI solutions.
• Use tools such as Claude CLI, GitHub Copilot, Vertex AI and Codex, and deploy on AWS and GCP.

Required profile

• Masters degree in a quantitative or applied field (Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering).
• At least 5 years of experience in the full lifecycle of ML model development and deployment in production on cloud infrastructure (Databricks highly preferred).

Required skills

• Deep expertise in RAG architectures and prompt engineering.
• Production experience with LLM-powered applications and agent systems.
• AgentOps, harness engineering and context engineering (chunking, context optimization).
• Python, NLP and text processing, transformer architectures and basic machine learning.
• Nice to have: advanced agentic patterns, multimodal AI, LLM evaluation, LLMOps/MLOps.
