Migration Operations Manager

About the role

Arbor Education, which builds MIS and school management tools used in over 12,000 schools, is looking for an experienced Migration Operations Manager to join its Engineering team in Trivandrum. The role leads the team responsible for the operational health of migrations for Arbor products, mainly Arbor MIS and other products such as Arbor Finance, and works closely with Onboarding, Support, Migration Product and Platform teams.

Key responsibilities

• Line-manage and develop a team of Migration Operations Engineers, including 1:1s, performance reviews, recruitment, onboarding and retention
• Set operational quality standards, mentor the team in triage, root cause analysis and escalation, and champion knowledge sharing through tech talks and playbooks
• Manage team capacity against migration volume and oversee project planning, estimation, feasibility and resource allocation
• Ensure migrations finish within SLAs, organise on-call coverage for critical events and own operational readiness, risk assessments and go/no-go decisions
• Lead root cause analysis on failed or delayed migrations, run post-incident reviews and maintain triage frameworks and escalation paths
• Drive automation to reduce operational toil and improve data integrity checks, and keep documentation and playbooks up to date
• Give prioritised feedback to the Migration Product and Platform teams, liaise with Onboarding and Support, and communicate status and risks to technical and non-technical stakeholders

Required profile

• Experience leading technical operations for complex production systems and managing risk and reliability
• People management experience: 1:1s, performance reviews, hiring and coaching engineers
• Understanding of SLAs, SLOs/SLIs and service reliability
• Significant experience with data migration in production environments
• Ability to manage multiple workstreams and work with customer-facing teams

Required skills

• Monitoring and observability platforms such as Datadog or Prometheus
• Incident management, operational triage and post-incident review
• Experience using AI tooling to boost team productivity is desirable
