Senior Legal Counsel – Commercial Contracts & AEM markets

About the role

Thomson Reuters is looking for an experienced, commercially‑minded Senior Legal Counsel to support its Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa (AEM) region. The role provides strategic legal advice across sales, product, partnerships, compliance and leadership, focusing on complex commercial and technology agreements.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements, including SaaS licences, software licences, data and content licences, professional services contracts, NDAs, partnership and AI‑related arrangements.
• Provide solution‑oriented legal advice that balances commercial goals with regulatory risk, especially for high‑value public‑sector and regulated‑industry opportunities.
• Advise on intellectual property, licence structures, indemnities, liability allocation and procurement localisation requirements, particularly for Middle‑Eastern jurisdictions.
• Support AI‑enabled product and service contracts, covering AI functionality, data governance, data‑use rights, IP ownership and risk allocation.
• Identify, assess and mitigate legal and regulatory risks, offering guidance on privacy, data protection, anti‑corruption, governance and consumer law.
• Develop and deliver legal training materials and maintain awareness of evolving regional regulations.
• Collaborate with sales, professional services, product, privacy and compliance teams to ensure efficient deal closure across the AEM region.

Required profile

• Significant experience negotiating complex commercial and technology agreements.
• Strong understanding of regulatory, privacy and compliance issues in multiple jurisdictions, especially the Middle East and Africa.
• Ability to provide pragmatic legal advice that supports business growth.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
