Senior Engineer – Tooling & Polymer Technology

About the role

We are looking for a Senior Engineer to lead tooling and polymer technology for high‑volume consumer hard‑goods at 3M’s R&D centre in Bengaluru. You will own the end‑to‑end development of molded components, from polymer selection through to production rollout.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop mass‑market consumer products, defining product specifications and performance targets.
• Create and optimise 3‑D mold layouts for multi‑cavity injection tooling, ensuring manufacturability and cycle‑time reduction.
• Select appropriate engineering polymers and elastomers (e.g., PP, ABS, POM, TPE, Nylon) based on wear and flexibility requirements.
• Conduct laboratory validation, generate performance reports and compile technical data packages with SOPs.
• Lead Design‑for‑Manufacturing reviews and perform Moldflow simulation analyses.
• Manage tooling vendors, oversee IP assessments and draft freedom‑to‑operate documentation.
• Address customer complaints through root‑cause analysis and implement design fixes.
• Collaborate with R&D, sourcing, quality, lifecycle management and vendor development teams.

Required profile

• 3–8 years of industrial experience in tooling, polymer technology and consumer‑goods product engineering.
• Proven expertise in injection molding, overmolding and DFM processes.
• Fluent in English and Hindi, with professional proficiency in the local regional language.

Required skills

• Advanced CAD modelling in SolidWorks, Creo or Siemens NX.
• Moldflow simulation and analysis.
• Injection molding and overmolding techniques.
• Design‑for‑Manufacturing (DFM) methodology.
• Knowledge of engineering plastics such as PP, ABS, POM, TPE and Nylon.
