R&D Service Engineer – Oracle Database

About the role

Join Philips' global Level 3 Technical Support team as an R&D Service Engineer, providing expert Oracle database support for critical healthcare production environments.

Key responsibilities

• Provide advanced Oracle database support for escalations and complex production incidents, using tools such as AWR, ASH, SQL traces and execution plans.
• Lead root‑cause analysis for recurring high‑impact incidents and collaborate with R&D, product, infrastructure and engineering teams.
• Support major customer activities including upgrades, migrations, failovers and go‑lives while participating in a 24x7 on‑call rotation.
• Develop troubleshooting tools, document best practices and mentor other L3 engineers.

Required profile

• 7‑10 years of hands‑on experience with Oracle Enterprise Database (19c and earlier).
• Strong analytical problem‑solving skills handling critical production incidents across database, application, OS, storage and network layers.
• Ability to work independently, make technical decisions under pressure and collaborate across global teams.

Required skills

• SQL and PL/SQL development, database performance tuning, AWR, ASH, SQL Trace, execution plans, Oracle dynamic performance views.
• Understanding of Oracle architecture, sessions, locking, memory management, storage, connectivity and performance optimization.
• Knowledge of infrastructure components (storage, networking, virtualization, OS) and preferably Oracle RAC, Data Guard, backup/recovery, Windows Server.
• Automation experience with PowerShell, SQL or Python is a plus.
