Mechanical Technician

About the role

Soneji Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Technician to join its team for the assembly, installation, and maintenance of equipment in hydropower and other heavy‑industry plants. The role involves hands‑on work on site, ensuring that mechanical components are fitted, aligned, and operating to design specifications.

Key responsibilities

• Perform mechanical assembly and installation in hydropower plants, including pipeline works.
• Assist with alignment, leveling, and centering of equipment.
• Measure dimensions, clearances, run‑outs, and alignment using precision instruments.
• Verify installation parameters as directed by the site engineer.
• Dismantle, inspect, repair, and re‑assemble mechanical equipment.
• Replace worn components such as bushes, bearings, seals, fasteners, and gaskets.

Required profile

• ITI or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
• 5–10 years of experience in hydropower, thermal power, cement plants, or heavy‑machinery industries.
• Ability to perform minor welding work on site if required.
• Good communication skills and safe use of power tools and lifting equipment.

Required skills

• Mechanical fitting and assembly of heavy equipment.
• Precision measurement using vernier calipers, micrometers, dial gauges, feeler gauges, and depth gauges.
• Alignment, clearance checking, and installation of mechanical components.
• Basic knowledge of bearings, shaft seals, rotating mechanisms, and hydraulic systems.
• Safe operation of power tools and lifting equipment.
• Minor welding at site.
