GEF Consultant for UNEP Projects in India

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a GEF Consultant to support coordination and implementation of GEF‑funded projects in India across Chemicals and Waste, Climate Change Mitigation and Transparency, and International Waters focal areas. The consultant will work from the UNEP India Country Office, providing technical and coordination support to national stakeholders and UNEP task managers.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate and support UNEP‑GEF projects in India, engaging national stakeholders and responding to focal point requests.
• Serve as the internal focal point for project coordination and assist the UNEP India Country Office on GEF‑related matters.
• Contribute to the development of the GEF‑9 strategy and related project proposals, including data collection, stakeholder mapping, and baseline analyses.
• Support monitoring, analysis, and reporting of project progress, including reviewing quarterly reports and updating UNEP reporting systems.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in environment, natural resource management, law, social sciences, energy, economics, engineering, management, policy or equivalent; a bachelor’s degree plus two years experience may be accepted.
• At least one year of professional experience at national or international level in environmental or related programmes.
• Good understanding of environmental issues in India, with experience working with stakeholders on chemicals, waste, international waters, plastics or climate change.
