Assistant Legal Counsel – Market Securities Services

About the role

HSBC is seeking an Assistant Legal Counsel to join the Market Securities Services (MSS) team within its Bangalore Legal Department. You will support the Corporate & Institutional Banking (CIB) franchise by negotiating and executing a range of master trading documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate and execute traded market documents such as ISDA Master Agreements, Credit Support Annexes (CSA), AFMA agreements, GMRA, GMSLA, CDEA, compensation agreements, guarantees and FX Give‑Up notices.
• Conduct detailed reviews of constitutional documents for counterparties, taking into account their home jurisdiction and applicable laws.
• Maintain and update internal databases promptly, ensuring accurate record‑keeping.
• Manage quick turnaround times, proactively chase and follow up on pending items, and take ownership of each case to completion.
• Perform enhanced legal research and analysis to support documentation and compliance.
• Adhere to HSBC policies, Group Standards Manual, functional manuals and desk instructions.

Required profile

• Law degree from a recognised law college or university in India or overseas.
• Minimum six years of experience drafting, vetting and negotiating legal agreements in a financial services environment.
• Strong understanding of jurisdiction‑specific constitutional documents and international trading documentation.

Required skills

• Proficiency with ISDA Master Agreements and related derivatives documentation.
• Experience handling Credit Support Annexes (CSA).
• Familiarity with AFMA, GMRA, GMSLA and CDEA agreements.
• Legal drafting and contract negotiation expertise.
