Software Engineer II (API Developer)

About the role

Trimble Unity, a cloud-based construction software platform, is hiring a P2-level Software Engineer II in its Chennai office. The role focuses on designing, developing and integrating scalable, secure RESTful APIs and microservices for enterprise applications, working with Product, QA, DevOps and Architecture teams.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices following secure coding standards and compliance guidelines.
• Create, implement and test software designs within the team's process framework, keeping documentation up to date (Swagger/OpenAPI).
• Integrate APIs with backend systems, RDBMS and NoSQL databases and third-party services, optimising performance, scalability and security.
• Take part in technical and design reviews, give constructive feedback in code reviews, and help plan and run product testing with QA.
• Troubleshoot API performance or functional issues and handle other duties as requested by management.

Required profile

• 3-5 years of experience in software product development with a solid understanding of object-oriented programming concepts.
• Strong hands-on programming experience in Java writing high-quality, readable code.
• Experience in UI development with React JS.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with a self-starter attitude and passion for learning new technologies.

Required skills

• Backend: API development and microservices with Java / Spring Boot, Python / FastAPI / Flask or .NET Core.
• REST APIs, JSON, OAuth2, JWT and API gateways.
• SQL/NoSQL databases and a good working knowledge of Linux.
• Git, CI/CD, cloud deployments, scripting and cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure or GCP.
• Bonus points: GraphQL and gRPC, Docker and Kubernetes, observability tools (New Relic, Splunk, Postman), and gateway architectures (AWS/Azure/WSO2/Apigee).
