Senior Legal Counsel – India

About the role

Hitachi Rail is seeking a self‑motivated Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal support across its APAC business, with a focus on India. The role combines corporate governance, regulatory compliance and commercial advisory in a fast‑paced rail and transportation environment.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee implementation of corporate governance actions in line with applicable laws and regulations.
• Ensure timely and accurate fulfilment of regulatory and legislative obligations, including maintenance of company registers and legal documentation.
• Provide senior‑level legal advice to business units across APAC, covering M&A, finance transactions, intellectual property and complex commercial contracts.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, NDAs and strategic contracts for the Rail Sector Business Unit in India.
• Lead significant Indian‑based legal matters, including arbitrations and litigations.
• Engage with senior management of the Indian Hitachi Rail entity and coordinate external counsel to deliver cost‑effective legal services.
• Identify legal risks, develop mitigation strategies and support strategic decision‑making with legal insights.

Required profile

• Senior‑level legal professional with extensive experience in corporate governance, regulatory compliance and commercial legal advisory.
• Proven track record handling M&A, finance transactions, intellectual property, arbitrations and litigations.
• Ability to interpret and guide senior management on complex regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Strong stakeholder management skills, including interaction with internal senior leaders and external counsel.
