Lab Technician – Robotics/Automation

About the role
UST is seeking a Lab Technician to support the development, integration, and qualification of advanced electro‑mechanical and automation systems, including wafer‑handling robotics used in semiconductor equipment. The role involves building and maintaining test setups, troubleshooting hardware, and collaborating with cross‑functional teams to ensure lab readiness.
Key responsibilities
- Support engineering teams in building, modifying, and maintaining customized test setups and lab infrastructure for system validation.
- Execute testing and qualification activities for electro‑mechanical systems and sub‑assemblies.
- Perform hands‑on troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis across mechanical, electrical, and control systems.
- Assist in assembly, integration, and debugging of prototypes and test rigs for new product development.
- Identify test‑setup challenges and propose practical solutions to improve efficiency and reliability.
- Collaborate with engineering, facilities, safety, and vendors to ensure equipment operability and compliance.
- Follow and support safety procedures, interlocks, and lab compliance standards.
Required profile
- Diploma/Associate/ITI in Mechanical, Mechatronics or a related technical field.
- 4–8 years of hands‑on experience in industrial automation, manufacturing equipment, test/validation labs, or field service/maintenance roles.
- Strong problem‑solving capability and ability to work independently in lab or shop‑floor environments.
- Effective communication skills for coordination with cross‑functional teams.
Required skills
- Hands‑on experience with industrial automation equipment such as assembly automation lines, CNC or special‑purpose machines, packaging or process equipment, and testing/inspection systems.
- Understanding of electro‑mechanical components: motors, actuators, sensors, drives, basic control systems and wiring.
- Experience with sensors and data‑acquisition systems (temperature, vibration, pressure, position, optical).
- Proficiency with lab and diagnostic tools: multimeter, oscilloscope, power supplies, and basic instrumentation.
- Skills in wiring, harnessing, electrical connections, soldering/de‑soldering, mechanical assembly, and fixture building.
