Hardware Engineer – FPGA Development

About the role

The Hardware Engineer will join Cisco's Hardware Platform Group, focusing on FPGA development for both data‑path and control‑path designs. You will work closely with remote teams in the US and Italy to deliver robust, bug‑free RTL that meets first‑pass silicon success.

Key responsibilities

• Design and implement FPGA solutions from architecture definition through verification.
• Write detailed design specifications and develop comprehensive test plans.
• Develop block‑level RTL, perform synthesis, and achieve timing closure using vendor tools.
• Collaborate with hardware, software, diagnostics, and signal‑integrity groups.
• Assist in subsystem bring‑up, integration, and lab validation.
• Contribute to process improvements and design‑flow adoption within the team.

Required profile

• 10‑12 years of FPGA design experience.
• BTech/MTech in Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
• Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
• Self‑motivated with strong interpersonal abilities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Xilinx, Altera, and Microsemi FPGAs.
• Expertise in Verilog, VHDL, and SystemVerilog.
• Hands‑on experience with Vivado, Quartus, and Libero tools.
• Knowledge of Ethernet, PCIe, AXI, memory controllers, OTN, I2C, SPI, UART.
• Familiarity with UVM or VMM simulation flows.
• Basic Unix scripting skills.
