Data Manager - Data Operations

About the role

Glencore is hiring a Data Manager for its Data Operations team in Chennai, India. The role analyses the company's data needs and uses analytical and coding skills to maintain reliable and valid market data, ensuring consistent standards and collaboration with the wider data management team and other stakeholders. It also involves producing and using business intelligence to monitor and control data-related operations and working with engineering teams on data products and services.

Key responsibilities

• Streamline data collection and analysis procedures so metrics and analysis are quickly accessible.
• Develop and maintain reference data and metadata, including terminology, valid data and values.
• Define and implement data management protocols.
• Maintain the business glossary, recording business rules, standards and quality guidelines.
• Own and manage the data lifecycle.
• Identify and resolve market data issues and act as the Data Steward of Market Prices, sharing knowledge across the organisation.
• Mentor and support junior staff and perform ad hoc duties as needed.

Required profile

• Advanced education in statistics, mathematics or computer science.
• At least 9 to 11 years of experience in a market data or commodities-focused role.
• Good understanding of energy markets and commodities.
• Ability to work across multiple time zones and to work with minimal supervision.
• Strong attention to detail, methodical and organised, with good research, analysis and communication skills.

Required skills

• Solid knowledge of data management principles.
• Knowledge of ITIL processes (mandatory).
• Strong knowledge of SQL.
• Experience of data quality control techniques is an advantage.
• Experience with ZEMA software is a plus.
