Commis I – Kitchen Assistant

About the role

We are seeking a motivated Commis I to join our culinary team at a Westin hotel in Mumbai. The role involves preparing special meals, handling cold foods, and supporting the kitchen during busy periods while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare special meals and substitute items according to recipes and presentation standards.
• Regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills and roasters; pull and thaw items from freezer storage.
• Ensure proper portioning, arrangement, garnish and maintain food logs.
• Monitor food quality and quantity, inform the Chef of excess items for daily specials.
• Communicate menu specials and out‑of‑stock items to Food & Beverage service staff.
• Follow all company safety, security and hygiene policies; report maintenance needs and unsafe conditions.
• Assist with hiring, training and scheduling as needed, acting as a role model for the team.

Required profile

• Technical, trade or vocational school degree.
• Minimum 3 years of relevant kitchen experience.
• No supervisory experience required.
• Ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods and lift objects up to 25 lb.
