Staff Nurse – Medicine for the Elderly (Band 5)

About the role

The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde is seeking a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join the Older People and Stroke Services at Vale of Leven Hospital. The post is focused on delivering high‑quality, person‑centred care to elderly patients across medicine, stroke rehabilitation, orthopaedic rehabilitation and movement disorders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide safe, evidence‑based nursing care to a defined group of elderly patients.
• Perform clinical tasks including IV therapy, cannulation and venepuncture.
• Assess patient needs, develop and evaluate individual care plans.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including frailty practitioners and AHP consultants, to facilitate effective discharge planning.
• Act as a role model for junior staff and student nurses, supporting their learning and development.

Required profile

• Current NMC registration (live UK PIN).
• Experience or willingness to work in medicine for the elderly within a hospital setting.
• Strong communication skills and ability to work autonomously.
• Commitment to continuous professional development and reflective practice.
