SPM Design Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a skilled Design Engineer to create and develop Special Purpose Machines (SPM), automation equipment, and custom machinery based on customer specifications. The role involves turning concepts into detailed 3D models, 2D fabrication drawings, and complete manufacturing documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop SPMs, automation equipment, and custom machinery using SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
• Create 3D models, assemblies, layouts, detailed part and assembly drawings, exploded views, and BOMs.
• Develop machine concepts considering functionality, manufacturability, assembly, maintenance, safety, and cost.
• Design jigs, fixtures, tooling, grippers, conveyors, and mechanical mechanisms.
• Perform mechanism design, motion analysis, and select appropriate components such as bearings, linear guides, gearboxes, pneumatic cylinders, motors, and actuators.
• Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, fits, clearances, and tolerance stack‑up.
• Maintain BOMs, component specifications, and engineering documentation.
• Coordinate with production, manufacturing, electrical, automation, quality, purchasing, and vendors throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support assembly, testing, debugging, trials, installation, commissioning, and resolve design issues during build and production trials.
• Optimize designs for cycle time, productivity, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness.

Required profile

• B.E./B.Tech or Diploma in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Production Engineering.
• 2–8 years of relevant experience in SPM design, industrial automation, machine design, or related fields.
• Proven ability to work cross‑functionally with engineering, manufacturing, and vendor teams.

Required skills

• SolidWorks 3D modelling and assembly.
• AutoCAD 2D drafting and manufacturing drawings.
• Mechanical machine design, including jigs & fixtures and mechanism design.
• GD&T, tolerance stack‑up, and tolerance analysis.
• BOM creation and engineering documentation management.
• Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, sensors, actuators, servo motors, VFDs, and basic PLC concepts.
• Understanding of machine safety standards.
