Solid Waste Management (Plastic) Consultant – UNEP Project

About the role

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is seeking a consultant to support the implementation of a solid waste management (SWM) project focused on plastic pollution in Mumbai, India. Working remotely from India, the consultant will coordinate daily activities with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure effective project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Coordinate day‑to‑day interactions with government officials, civil society, research institutions, private sector partners, funding agencies and multilateral organisations.
• Map expertise and align efforts of all partners to support the Government of India in implementing the SWM project.
• Facilitate stakeholder capacity‑building workshops, knowledge‑generation activities and actionable planning.
• Monitor project progress, prepare reports and provide updates to the Head of UNEP India Country Office.
• Contribute to the design and scaling of climate‑responsive, circular plastic waste management solutions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental management, ocean science, social sciences, pollution studies, communication or a related field.
• At least three years of relevant professional experience in waste management, environmental consulting, or related sectors.
