Software Engineer, Backend & Platform Infrastructure

About the role

AION is an enterprise AI platform that builds, fine-tunes and deploys AI at scale, with teams in the US, UK and India. It is looking for a solid backend engineer with 2-4 years of experience who writes clean, well-tested code and works on both the Compute Platform (multi-cloud orchestration, resource management) and the Inference Platform (model serving, autoscaling) under the guidance of senior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain platform services for multi-cloud orchestration, resource scheduling, model deployment pipelines and autoscaling
• Design low-level services, APIs, database schemas and data models, and take part in high-level design discussions
• Develop RESTful APIs and gRPC services, and design database schemas for platform state, resource metadata, billing and observability
• Work with Kafka, RabbitMQ, PostgreSQL and Redis, and build event-driven architectures for asynchronous processing and job scheduling
• Add monitoring, logging and alerting, and write unit, integration and end-to-end tests
• Take part in code reviews, refactor code, document design decisions and runbooks, and help debug production issues and incidents

Required profile

• 2-4 years of experience in backend engineering, platform development or distributed systems
• Strong proficiency in Golang, with idiomatic code, error handling, concurrency patterns and testing
• Product-minded, able to wear several hats and collaborate with senior engineers
• Preferred: founder-level ownership, strategic thinking, excellent communication and mentoring skills, and comfort in fast-paced, ambiguous environments

• Docker and basic Kubernetes concepts
• Git, CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks
• Cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform) or observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana) are a plus
• Bonus: HPC cluster management, data engineering, systems programming, ML platform engineering or enterprise deployment experience
