Engineering Manager - Generative AI

About the role

Barclays is hiring an Engineering Manager in Bengaluru, India, within its Customer Digital and Data business area. The role centres on Generative AI: acting as an innovative Generative AI Engineer to drive adoption of Large Language Models (LLMs) and agentic flows, focusing on process efficiencies, automation, simplification and risk reduction across enterprise business solutions. The position is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage engineering teams, giving technical guidance, mentorship and support to deliver high-quality software solutions.
• Drive technical excellence, foster a culture of innovation and collaborate with cross-functional teams so technical decisions align with business objectives.
• Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritisation to deliver solutions within scope, time and budget.
• Mentor team members, run performance reviews, give feedback and identify improvement opportunities.
• Evaluate and improve engineering processes, tools and methodologies.
• Work with business partners, product managers and designers to turn business requirements into technical solutions.
• Enforce technology standards, run peer reviews and implement robust testing practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or Engineering.
• Ability to lead technical teams and mentor junior developers.
• Good communication and stakeholder management skills, and a demonstrated ability to structure and lead.
• Experience in model risk management and guardrails development.
• Additional value: professional experience in financial services and technology firms, knowledge of REST APIs, JSON/XML, CI/CD tools (Jenkins) and cloud-native architectures.

Required skills

• Language models, transformers, agentic frameworks, vector stores and search algorithms.
• Python for agentic, GenAI and frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph and CrewAI.
• AWS ML ecosystem (Bedrock, SageMaker, Lambda, API Gateway).
• Prompt engineering and prompt management.
• Databases: SQL, NoSQL and vector databases (e.g. DynamoDB, PGVector, ChromaDB, FAISS).
• Familiarity with AWS, GCP or Azure.
