Assistant Director, QA Engineer - Databricks & Python

About the role

Moody's is hiring an Assistant Director, QA Engineer focused on Databricks and Python for its Data Estate line of business. The role sits within the Data Platform and Engineering team, which builds and maintains scalable, high-quality data solutions powered by Databricks and Delta Lake. It is based in Bengaluru and Gurugram, India, and is aimed at experienced candidates.

Key responsibilities

• Ensure data quality, reliability and correctness across large-scale data platform pipelines through automated validation and testing.
• Lead end-to-end data quality validation across Bronze, Silver and Gold layers, setting testing standards and quality gates.
• Define and drive the overall QA strategy, test approach, automation roadmap and release readiness criteria.
• Mentor QA engineers by reviewing test plans, automation frameworks, validation logic, defect analysis and quality metrics.
• Work with engineering, platform, product and architecture teams to influence design, spot quality risks early and ensure testability.
• Own quality governance: test execution reviews, defect triage, risk assessments, root cause analysis and executive-level status reporting.
• Drive continuous improvement of automation coverage, testing efficiency, data quality controls and operational excellence.
• Act as the main QA point of contact for stakeholders during releases, production validation, issue resolution and audits.

Required profile

• 6+ years of experience in software quality assurance or data quality engineering, including automation-first testing for complex enterprise data platforms.
• Proven experience leading QA initiatives, mentoring team members, driving quality governance and influencing delivery decisions.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related field.
• Experience in Agile or Scrum environments.

Required skills

• Databricks SQL and Python, including testing of notebooks, workflows, pipelines and scheduled jobs.
• Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold) and data lifecycle validation.
• PySpark for data validation and test automation.
• SQL and data validation across dataset, record, schema, transformation and source-to-target mapping.
• Xray for test management and Jira for defect tracking.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools and AI-powered solutions, with awareness of AI risk management.
