Software Development Engineer I (Frontend)

Newton School is an ed‑tech company that builds scalable, industry‑ready learning platforms. As a Software Development Engineer I you will work on real product surfaces used by thousands of students, collaborating closely with design and product teams to take features from concept to production.

Key responsibilities

• Develop polished web experiences using React and Next.js, from reusable components to full product flows.
• Improve Core Web Vitals, rendering performance, state management, accessibility, and responsiveness.
• Build developer‑facing features such as coding playgrounds, proctoring tools, and AI‑powered learning modules.
• Translate designs into production‑ready code with attention to edge cases and UX details.
• Review code, fix bugs, and simplify complex logic while maintaining clean code standards.
• Collaborate tightly with product managers and designers, contributing ideas beyond assigned tickets.

Required profile

• 1–2 years of professional experience shipping production web applications.
• Strong fundamentals in JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, CSS, React, and Next.js.
• Comfort with state‑management solutions such as Redux or Redux Toolkit.
• Good debugging instincts, problem‑solving ability, and attention to detail.
• Proficiency with Git and collaborative development workflows.
• Clear communication skills and ability to thrive in a fast‑moving team.
