Senior Software Engineer – Mongo/Aiven KTLO

About the role

DigitalOcean is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to own the control plane of its cloud DBaaS platform. You will work on highly scalable distributed systems, helping customers build and operate their applications with ease.

Key responsibilities

• Develop the control plane for a cloud DBaaS platform.
• Build highly scalable distributed systems at scale.
• Implement database engine controls for provisioning, destroying, scaling, and backup of clusters.
• Create world‑class telemetry and logging to provide proactive alerts.
• Orchestrate complex workflows for various database engines.
• Automate operations and create playbooks for upgrades, security patching, and maintenance.
• Stay current with cloud‑native infrastructure, Kubernetes operators, control‑plane patterns, and DBaaS trends.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, especially with cloud‑scale distributed systems and OLTP databases.
• Strong expertise in Golang and gRPC.
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes and deployment pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions).
• Preferred experience with orchestration engines such as Temporal.
• Preferred operational experience with MongoDB.
• Systems‑thinking mindset and ability to hold strong opinions while staying adaptable.
