Senior Engineer - Rail Civils

About the role

The Senior Engineer – Rail Civils will take responsibility for specific and moderate portions of larger engineering assignments, gathering and correlating data, performing calculations and tests, and providing guidance to junior engineers. This role operates with minimal supervision, delivering primary design elements for rail‑related civil structures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform detailed engineering tasks including calculations, tests, and design of station structures, platforms and lineside infrastructure.
• Gather and correlate engineering data using established procedures and identify discrepancies.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to entry‑level engineers.
• Coordinate multi‑disciplinary aspects of railway projects and ensure work aligns with budget and schedule.

Required profile

• Master of Engineering (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline.
• 5+ years of structural design experience and at least 3 years in the UK rail industry.
• Proven experience leading small engineering teams and coordinating multi‑disciplinary efforts.
• Hands‑on experience with both concrete and steel design, including RC detailing and BBS checks.

• CAD modelling and drafting.
• Multi‑disciplinary coordination on railway projects.
• Design of foundations (pile, raft, pad), retaining walls, steel footbridges, stairs and lift shafts.
