Senior Data Engineer (Snowflake, dbt, Airflow)

About the role

A remote contract position for a Senior Data Engineer based in India, focused on building and maintaining data pipelines with Snowflake, dbt and Apache Airflow. The role covers transformation models, ingestion scripts and data quality, working from design through to production.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain dbt transformation models across multiple pipeline layers, from raw ingestion to governed, consumer-ready datasets.
• Write Snowflake SQL for complex transformations: type casting, deduplication, incremental load logic and surrogate key generation.
• Develop and debug Apache Airflow DAGs on AWS ECS.
• Contribute to AWS Lambda-based ingestion (Python) including file validation, control file generation and S3 event handling.
• Maintain source-to-target mapping documentation and align models to business requirements and data specs.
• Support onboarding of downstream consumers through data sharing and event-driven notifications.
• Take part in code reviews, write YAML-based data quality tests and own tickets from design to production.

Required profile

• Strong SQL and proficiency with dbt Core.
• Apache Airflow experience.
• Working knowledge of AWS services: S3, Lambda, MWAA, ECS, Glue Catalogs, Lake Formation, SQS and EventBridge.
• Experience with fixed-format or structured financial data files.
• CICD with GitHub Actions.

Nice to have: Apache Iceberg table format.
