Senior AI/ML Engineer – Build Agents & Platform

About the role

DigitalOcean is building the substrate for an AI‑native company. As a Senior AI/ML Engineer you will own the end‑to‑end delivery of agents, copilots, and platform services, turning ambiguous problems into reliable, production‑ready solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, and ship agents, copilots, and platform components with limited guidance.
• Implement orchestration, tool use, retrieval, memory, and evaluation pipelines to keep agents trustworthy as models evolve.
• Define regression tests, observability, and on‑call responsibilities for non‑deterministic AI outputs.
• Contribute to the internal AI platform – agent runtimes, model routing, and developer tooling.
• Partner with business stakeholders to scope problems and deliver measurable solutions.
• Mentor early‑career engineers through code reviews, pairing, and design feedback.

Required profile

• 4+ years of software engineering experience with a track record of shipping production features or services.
• Hands‑on experience building LLM‑powered applications, including retrieval‑augmented generation, agents, and prompt design.
• Strong evaluation instinct – using golden datasets and regression testing for AI systems.
• Ability to communicate technical trade‑offs clearly to both engineers and non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Python, Go, TypeScript, or Java.
• Kubernetes, containers, CI/CD pipelines, and observability stacks.
• Orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, CrewAI, AutoGen, or Semantic Kernel.
• Model Context Protocol tooling, vector stores, and runtime guardrails.
• Evaluation and observability tools like LangFuse, Arize, Braintrust, LangSmith, OpenTelemetry.
