Principal Tunnel Ventilation Systems Engineer

About the role

We are looking for a Principal Mechanical Engineer with extensive experience in Tunnel Ventilation Systems (TVS) and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to lead design, verification and performance assessment for metro, rail and road tunnel projects. The role combines technical leadership, client interaction and multidisciplinary coordination to ensure ventilation and smoke control systems meet safety and regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design, verification and performance assessment of tunnel ventilation systems for rail, road and metro projects.
• Develop and oversee simulation models using SES, IDA Tunnel, FDS, Pyrosim and other CFD tools for airflow and fire scenarios.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (SMEP, architecture, civil) to ensure accurate system integration and equipment access planning.
• Prepare engineering calculations, system layouts, mechanical drawings and technical specifications, ensuring compliance with employer requirements and fire‑life‑safety standards.
• Act as primary technical liaison with clients, participating in workshops, reviews and responding to technical queries.

Required profile

• 8–10 years of experience in tunnel ventilation design and simulation for metro, MRT/LRT, rail or road projects.
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, with specialized training in tunnel ventilation, fire safety or CFD.
• Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary engineering teams and manage multiple projects independently.
• Familiarity with relevant industry codes, standards and BIM coordination platforms.

Required skills

• SES (Subway Environment Simulation), IDA Tunnel, FDS (Fire Dynamics Simulator), Pyrosim or equivalent CFD software.
• 3‑D CFD modelling for smoke management.
• BIM workflows and design coordination tools such as ACC, SharePoint, ProjectWise.
• SCADA integration and preparation of Modes of Operation tables.
