P&ID Designer / Drafter

About the role

Gradiant India is seeking an experienced P&ID Designer to join its Global Engineering Center in Chennai. The role involves creating and maintaining piping and instrumentation diagrams for advanced water and wastewater treatment projects serving critical industries worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) and Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) for complex projects.
• Ensure dimensional accuracy, compliance with project design basis, and up‑to‑date specifications.
• Manage drawing revisions and maintain strict document control records.
• Collaborate with process, mechanical, electrical, and civil engineering teams to integrate multidisciplinary inputs.
• Apply company, project‑specific, and industry standards such as ASME, BIS, and ISO.
• Follow internal CAD standards for layering, naming, and drawing formats.
• Stay current with drafting software updates and best practices.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical, Civil, Chemical, or related engineering.
• 8‑10 years of hands‑on experience designing P&IDs for large‑scale projects.
• Proven ability to work on international projects and coordinate with cross‑functional teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• High attention to detail and precision in drafting activities.

Required skills

• AutoCAD (experience with AutoCAD 3D preferred).
• P&ID design and creation of Process Flow Diagrams.
• Knowledge of ASME, BIS, and ISO standards.
• Understanding of piping systems, process equipment, and instrumentation symbology.
• Familiarity with CAD document control procedures.
