Bulk Material Handling Design Engineer – Mechanical

About the role

ASSYSTEM is seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimisation of bulk material handling systems in Chennai. The role involves delivering innovative, safe, and efficient solutions for conveyors, hoppers, chutes, and storage silos.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare layout drawings, perform technical calculations and select appropriate equipment.
• Design and develop bulk material handling equipment using advanced CAD tools.
• Analyse material properties to optimise system performance and equipment specifications.
• Produce detailed technical drawings, specifications and documentation compliant with industry standards.
• Collaborate with production, procurement and quality teams to ensure designs meet operational needs.
• Model and simulate equipment performance to identify improvements.
• Recommend design modifications based on testing results and operational feedback.
• Ensure all designs adhere to Indian industrial standards and international best practices.
• Support procurement by providing technical specifications and liaising with suppliers.
• Maintain organised project documentation and track design iterations and approvals.

Required profile

• B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 2 + years experience in bulk material handling engineering.

Required skills

• Proficiency with BELT ANALYST.
• Advanced CAD skills (AutoCAD, CATIA, SolidWorks).
• Experience using ANSYS or similar simulation software.
• Strong knowledge of conveyor systems, hoppers, chutes and storage solutions.
