Part-Time Dietary Aide – Multiple Positions

About the role

The Dietary Aide supports the Nutrition Manager in delivering safe, courteous meal services to residents and guests in a long‑term care residence. This part‑time position involves setting up, preparing, serving, and cleaning up all aspects of dining operations.

Key responsibilities

• Serve meals and beverages to residents and guests in a professional manner.
• Assist with set‑up and preparation of salads, desserts, and other menu items.
• Set and clear dining tables, provide tray service, and clean dishware and cutlery after each seating.
• Maintain cleanliness of the kitchen and dining areas, including routine sanitising tasks.
• Support catering for special occasions, theme events, and group meals.
• Help orient and train new dietary staff members.
• Follow health‑ and safety legislation, provincial regulations, and departmental procedures.
• Respect resident rights, attend in‑service training, staff meetings, and quality‑improvement programs.
• Work responsibly with vulnerable adults and uphold Extendicare’s Code of Conduct.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• Current Food Handler’s Certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
• Enrollment in or completion of a Food Service Worker Training Program.
• Previous food‑service experience, especially in senior‑care settings, is preferred.
• Strong customer‑service orientation.
• Physical ability to lift heavy, hot items and stand or walk for most of the shift.
• Second language proficiency is an asset.
• Current Vulnerable Sector Check (or willingness to obtain one).

Required skills

• Food safety and sanitation knowledge.
• Basic food‑service equipment operation.
