Linux Programmer / VM & System Administrator

About the role

Skylink is looking for a Linux Programmer / VM & System Administrator to join its engine room team supporting ISP and data‑centre operations in Coimbatore. The role focuses on building, maintaining and stabilising Linux‑based services and virtualised infrastructure for both internal teams and customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, maintain and optimise Linux servers (Ubuntu, CentOS, RHEL, Debian) for production and customer‑facing services.
• Design, deploy and manage virtual machines using KVM, Proxmox, VMware or OpenStack.
• Monitor system performance, apply patches, troubleshoot incidents and tune resources to ensure high availability.
• Automate repetitive tasks with Bash scripts and Python programs.
• Collaborate with NOC and SysAdmin teams to guarantee service reliability and rapid incident response.
• Implement security hardening and best‑practice configurations across all Linux and virtual environments.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation of architectures, processes and changes.

Required profile

• 2–3 years of hands‑on experience administering Linux systems in a data‑centre or ISP environment.
• Familiarity with virtualization platforms such as KVM, VMware, Proxmox or OpenStack.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts (TCP/IP, routing, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls).
• Experience writing Bash scripts and basic Python programming.
• Knowledge of server hardware, storage, rack layout and monitoring tools.
