Legal Counsel - Financial Regulatory

About the role

The firm is a global proprietary trading company seeking a Legal Counsel to join its Mumbai office. You will support the legal and compliance function by monitoring regulatory developments, drafting documents, and managing contracts.

Key responsibilities

• Track SEBI, IFSCA, NSE/BSE/MCX, RBI and other regulatory updates; produce research notes and impact summaries.
• Maintain compliance manuals, policies, SOPs and board briefings.
• Draft, review, redline and negotiate routine agreements such as NDAs, vendor contracts and MSAs.
• Manage contract trackers, CLM tools, DocuSign workflows and document management systems.
• Coordinate with cross‑functional teams, external counsel and internal stakeholders to close open items.
• Translate legal requirements into procedures, checklists and audit‑ready evidence packs.
• Assist with corporate housekeeping, filings and incident investigations.

Required profile

• LL.B. (or integrated 5‑year law degree) from a recognised university with a strong academic record.
• 5‑10 years post‑qualification experience in an in‑house legal team or top‑tier law firm, with exposure to SEBI regulatory work and algorithmic/electronic trading.
• Deep understanding of securities and markets regulation (SEBI, IFSCA, exchange rules) and financial services documentation.
• Excellent written and spoken English and high integrity handling confidential information.

• MS Word (track changes/redlines), Excel, PowerPoint.
• Document management (DMS) and contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools.
• DocuSign and e‑signature platforms.
• Collaboration tools: Jira, Confluence, Slack.
