Junior Engineer – Water Conservation & Agriculture

About the role

The Tata Steel Foundation is seeking a Junior Engineer to support water‑conservation and agricultural development projects across Jharkhand and Odisha. You will work directly with rural communities, applying technical surveying skills to design and implement sustainable structures that improve livelihoods.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct participatory planning, site selection and technical surveys for soil and water conservation interventions.
• Facilitate community engagement and institution building, including formation of water‑user groups and watershed committees.
• Implement and monitor structures such as field bunding, check dams, gabions, hybrid gabions, loose‑boulder structures, and other water‑conservation works.
• Prepare measurement books, Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and related documentation for billing and payment processes.
• Maintain project records including land records, layout plans, GPS‑based maps and user agreements.
• Coordinate with farmers and local stakeholders to ensure accurate implementation and alignment with project objectives.
• Provide technical support to enhance sustainable agriculture and rural livelihood initiatives.

Required profile

• Full‑time B.Tech degree in Agriculture, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• 0‑4 years of relevant experience in land surveying, rural development or water‑conservation projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and alignment with Tata values (Integrity, Responsibility, Excellence, Pioneering, Unity & Respect).
• Self‑motivated, result‑oriented and capable of strategic thinking and decision‑making.
