Engineering Manager – Ruby on Rails

About the role

Easyship is seeking an Engineering Manager for its Bangalore squad who will lead by doing. This full‑time, onsite position blends hands‑on development with people leadership, driving technical quality and team wellbeing while collaborating across EU/UK timezones.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a backend‑focused squad, ensuring delivery velocity and high code quality.
• Stay hands‑on with the Ruby on Rails codebase, contributing to architecture decisions and complex feature development.
• Own the technical architecture of the squad’s domain, designing scalable backend systems on the Rails monolith and emerging microservices.
• Partner with product managers and engineering leadership to translate roadmap priorities into realistic technical plans.
• Champion best practices such as testing, observability, security, and clean code.
• Introduce AI‑augmented workflows (agentic tooling, LLM integrations) to accelerate delivery.
• Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives, unblocking blockers, and fostering rapid engineer growth.

Required profile

• 6+ years of backend engineering experience, with at least 2 years in engineering management or technical lead roles.
• Deep, hands‑on expertise with Ruby on Rails and experience evolving large Rails monoliths.
• Strong architectural background designing and scaling backend systems.
• Experience with AI tooling or LLM integrations, either in production or experimentation.
• Excellent async communication skills for distributed EU/India collaboration.
• Empathetic leadership style, capable of giving direct feedback and creating psychological safety.
