Design Engineer - Body Structures (BIW)

About the role

Magna is seeking a Design Engineer specialized in Body‑in‑White (BIW) structures to create and develop critical vehicle components. The role focuses on delivering robust, cost‑effective, and manufacturable solutions while ensuring structural integrity and compliance with performance targets.

Key responsibilities

• Design and develop BIW components such as A/B/C pillars, roof rails, cross members, floor panels, and related structures.
• Create 3D models and 2D drawings using CATIA V5/V6, NX, or similar CAD tools.
• Collaborate with CAE, manufacturing, purchasing, and quality teams to meet product requirements.
• Support DFMEA, DVP, and validation plan preparation.
• Incorporate crash, NVH, stiffness, and durability requirements into designs.
• Perform benchmarking, cost optimization, tolerance stack‑up analysis, and GD&T implementation.
• Interact with suppliers to assess tooling feasibility and part manufacturability.
• Assist prototype build, testing, and root‑cause analysis of issues.

Required profile

• BE in Mechanical, Production, or Automobile engineering with 3‑6 years of relevant experience, or DME with 5‑7 years.
• Strong understanding of BIW component design and automotive manufacturing processes.
• Good communication skills and ability to work in cross‑functional teams.

Required skills

• Proficiency in CATIA and NX (or equivalent CAD software).
• Knowledge of GD&T and tolerance stack‑up analysis.
• Familiarity with joining technologies: spot welding, MIG welding, laser welding, adhesives, clinching, riveting.
• Experience with stamping, welding, and assembly processes.
• Ability to create detailed 2D drawings with BOM, annotations, and tolerances.
• Understanding of DFMEA, DVP, and validation planning.
