Core Banking Infrastructure Engineer (BA4)

About the role

As a Service Engineer at Barclays TESCO Bank, you will play a key role in supporting applications end‑to‑end, enhancing capabilities, and delivering continuous improvement of core banking platforms. You will be responsible for ensuring the resilience, performance, and integrity of critical systems while contributing to strategic change and operational excellence within the technology function.

Key responsibilities

• Lead L2/L3 application support for core banking applications, monitor system health and ensure high availability.
• Drive end‑to‑end CI/CD automation using GitLab, Jenkins and Nexus to improve deployment consistency and efficiency.
• Design, troubleshoot and optimise containerised workloads on Docker, Kubernetes/EKS and maintain Helm charts.
• Manage change, release and environment processes in line with Barclays governance, ensuring controlled deployments.
• Lead incident triage, root‑cause analysis and problem management to reduce recurring issues.
• Collaborate with business users, development, infrastructure and middleware teams to prioritise enhancements and support backlog delivery.
• Identify and implement process optimisation and automation opportunities to increase operational efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements and support risk management activities.

Required profile

• Strong understanding of ITIL practices (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
• Experience working in regulated financial services environments.
• Ability to manage competing priorities in a high‑pressure production support setting.
• Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Continuous learning mindset to adapt to evolving banking technologies.

Required skills

• AWS, GitLab, Jenkins, Terraform, Ansible, Kubernetes, EKS, Docker, Nexus.
• Python, PowerShell or other scripting languages.
• Windows and RHEL operating systems.
• Good‑to‑have: Datadog, Snyk, SonarQube, ServiceNow, JIRA, Confluence, Java, Safe Agile, Fiserv suite knowledge.
