Chinese Translator - Chemical Engineering

About the role

Bridge Business Support Solutions is looking for a Mandarin Chinese-English technical translator and interpreter to support engineering and project teams in communicating with Chinese equipment manufacturers, engineering companies, suppliers and technical representatives. The role covers accurate two-way translation and interpretation of engineering, technical, commercial and project information, and requires knowledge of engineering terminology, equipment specifications, technical drawings, datasheets, fabrication details, supplier quotations, manuals and technical discussions.

Key responsibilities

• Translate technical documents such as engineering drawings, PFDs, P&IDs, mechanical and assembly drawings, BOMs, MTOs, ITPs, FAT/SAT documents, inspection and test reports, operation and maintenance manuals, vendor quotations, technical offers, emails, meeting minutes and action trackers.
• Interpret during technical meetings, vendor discussions, design reviews, FAT/SAT, inspections, manufacturing, installation and commissioning.
• Bridge communication between English-speaking teams and Chinese-speaking suppliers, and follow up on pending technical clarifications.
• Review Chinese annotations, labels and drawing notes, and keep technical terminology consistent across project documents.
• Translate supplier quotations, commercial offers and technical proposals, and support comparisons of equipment, piping, instrumentation, mechanical and electrical components, utilities, fabrication and installation.
• Provide on-site interpretation during fabrication, inspection, testing, installation and commissioning, and support communication with Chinese technicians and engineers.
• Maintain project-specific Chinese-English technical glossaries, cross-check translations and keep document versions controlled.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree or diploma in Engineering, Technical Translation, Chinese Language, Linguistics or a related field.
• Fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Proven Chinese-English technical translation and interpretation experience.
• At least 3 years of relevant experience in engineering, manufacturing, EPC, industrial equipment, pharmaceutical, chemical, machinery or a similar environment.
• Nice to have: mechanical, chemical or process engineering background; experience with Chinese equipment manufacturers and international engineering teams; EPC/EPCM or industrial project experience; exposure to pharmaceutical, chemical, process or manufacturing equipment; familiarity with Chinese engineering standards and terminology.

Required skills

• Understanding of engineering terminology and technical documentation, and ability to read engineering drawings and technical specifications.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
