AI/ML Data Scientist - Applied AI

About the role

Barclays is hiring an AI/ML Data Scientist in Gurugram, India, within its Group Economic Crime business (Risk and Quantitative Analytics). The role leads project-specific work on targeting solutions that integrate into existing systems and processes, covering project design, predictive model development, validation, monitoring, tracking and implementation. The position is permanent.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement and support mathematical, statistical and machine learning models and analytics used in business decision-making.
• Design analytics and modelling solutions to complex business problems using domain expertise.
• Collaborate with technology to specify dependencies such as data, development environments and tools.
• Develop well-documented, high-performing analytics and modelling solutions validated by business users and independent validation teams.
• Implement models in accurate, stable, well-tested software and operationalise them.
• Provide ongoing support to users and comply with Barclays Enterprise Risk Management Policies, especially the Model Risk Policy.
• Lead and supervise a team, guide professional development, allocate work and coordinate resources; partner with other functions and take ownership of risk and controls.

Required profile

• Deep technical knowledge and thorough understanding of the underlying principles of the assigned expertise.
• Ability to make evaluative judgements, resolve problems and act as a contact point for stakeholders outside the immediate function.
• Legal right to work in India; sponsorship may be available.

Required skills

• Strong Python for data science and machine learning, and good understanding of AI/ML algorithms including NLP.
• SQL for data querying and manipulation.
• Hands-on experience with Spark/PySpark and predictive model development.
• Understanding of the model lifecycle, including monitoring, governance and implementation.
• Familiarity with Git, Bitbucket and JIRA; knowledge of TeamCity, Jenkins, AWS, Databricks and Generative AI tools is desirable.
