Technical Services Manager – Locomotive Maintenance

About the role

The Services Technical Manager leads the diesel shed team, providing technical direction to senior technicians and multiple maintenance crews responsible for 4,500 HP and 6,000 HP locomotives. This senior position ensures optimal performance through careful planning, execution, and continuous improvement of all maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the diesel shed, offering technical guidance to senior technicians and cross‑functional teams.
• Plan, schedule, and execute both scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, heavy maintenance, and wreck‑repair projects.
• Ensure all work follows established procedures, meets cost, quality, and timeline targets, and is fully documented and signed off.
• Maintain strict safety and environmental standards and comply with local regulations and customer safety policies.
• Utilise IT tools for work planning, execution tracking, and performance monitoring.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent technical training.
• Minimum 12 years of hands‑on experience in locomotive or rolling‑stock maintenance.
• Willingness to work 24 × 7 shift patterns.
• Proven ability to lead shop‑floor teams and communicate effectively with multiple stakeholders.
• Prior experience in the transportation or rail industry.
