Senior Software Engineer

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Appian platform, you will ensure the system remains fast, scalable, and capable of handling complex customer configurations. You will design, develop, and maintain large‑scale software while providing technical leadership and mentorship.

Key responsibilities

• Set and enforce code quality standards, ensuring clean, maintainable, well‑documented code across the repository.
• Lead high‑level design sessions, choose architectural patterns (microservices, serverless, event‑driven) and ensure scalability and security.
• Create internal tooling and “Golden Paths” to simplify infrastructure for feature teams.
• Mentor junior engineers, conduct rigorous code reviews, and drive technical initiatives.
• Own feature delivery from requirement analysis through deployment, including debugging production issues and performance optimization.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field; degree from a selective engineering institution preferred.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience with full‑stack Java and web technologies.
• Proven experience building and scaling distributed, cloud‑native systems.
• Experience leading technical initiatives or small project groups.
• Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical trade‑offs to non‑technical stakeholders.

Required skills

• Java (or C++/similar) programming.
• Data structures, algorithms, design patterns.
• Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD pipelines.
• AWS cloud platform, modern databases.
• Performance monitoring tools such as Grafana and Prometheus.
• AI/ML integration tools (e.g., Amazon Q, Kiro, Claude).
