Senior SDET (Manual + Playwright Automation)

About the role

Deque Systems, a web accessibility software company, is hiring a Senior SDET who owns end-to-end quality for a product. The role covers both manual and automation testing and includes mentoring junior engineers. It is a full-time, remote position.

Key responsibilities

• Own end-to-end quality for the assigned product, from requirement analysis through release sign-off.
• Define test strategy and test plans, and write and review test cases.
• Perform and coordinate manual and automation testing for the product.
• Design, build and run automated tests for web UI and APIs using a JavaScript-based framework, using AI tools to speed up script development.
• Maintain and expand the automation framework and regression suite.
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins) and monitor results.
• Analyse production bugs, perform root cause analysis and drive preventive actions.
• Work with developers and Product Owners to close gaps in test coverage, promote shift-left testing and mentor junior QA engineers.
• Track and report quality metrics and release readiness to stakeholders.

Required profile

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or equivalent technical studies.
• 8-10 years of experience in software QA, including at least 2 years in a senior QA role owning quality for a product or modules.
• Proven ability to write and review test strategies, plans and test cases.
• Experience mentoring and guiding junior QA engineers.
• Excellent oral and written communication and strong team skills.

Required skills

• Testing and automating web applications and RESTful APIs (Postman, Playwright API testing).
• JavaScript (preferred) or TypeScript; Node.js is a plus.
• UI automation in a JS-based framework (Playwright preferred; Puppeteer, Cypress, WebdriverIO also relevant).
• Building and enhancing automation frameworks, not just writing scripts.
• CI/CD tools, especially GitHub Actions (Jenkins, CircleCI a plus).
• Git and defect management tools such as Jira or TestRail.
• AI coding tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot or Cursor, with judgment to review generated code.
• Good to have: WCAG and accessibility testing, performance testing (k6, JMeter), AWS and Docker, and QA metrics tracking.
