Lead AI/ML Engineer - RxMax Modernization

About the role

Optum, part of UnitedHealth Group, is hiring a Principal AI/ML & Data Engineer in Noida to design, build and operationalize enterprise-scale AI, machine learning, generative AI and data engineering capabilities for the RxMax modernization program. The role combines deep PBM domain knowledge with hands-on engineering to turn complex business rules and legacy knowledge into secure, scalable, well-governed solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, evaluate and deploy production-grade machine learning and generative AI solutions for PBM and RxMax use cases, including RAG, enterprise search, AI agents and engineering assistants
• Create model and prompt evaluation frameworks and operationalize models through MLOps, monitoring, versioning and controlled release
• Build scalable data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, orchestration and serving, with data quality, metadata, lineage and observability
• Use Azure, Databricks, ADLS, Spark/PySpark, SQL and Delta Lake to build data products and services
• Secure access to sensitive healthcare and PBM data with masking, least privilege and auditability
• Modernize code with AI-assisted, repository-aware practices, reusable frameworks and automated CI/CD with quality and security controls
• Mentor engineers and set standards, patterns and reference implementations

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, Information Systems or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
• 8+ years in software, data or machine learning engineering
• 5+ years designing and delivering large-scale cloud data platforms or production data products
• Proven experience building and operating production AI/ML solutions
• Leadership, analytical, troubleshooting and communication skills
