Engineering Manager – Java Backend

About the role

As an Engineering Manager for the Java Backend team at Skyhigh Security, you will lead a squad of 6‑10 engineers who build and operate the core services behind our Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) portfolio. You will combine people leadership with deep technical guidance to ensure architectural integrity, high‑quality delivery, and operational reliability.

Key responsibilities

• Mentor, coach and manage a team of 6‑10 backend engineers, providing regular feedback, career development and performance reviews.
• Partner with Talent Acquisition to hire, onboard and retain top‑tier talent.
• Foster an inclusive, transparent and high‑performance engineering culture.
• Participate in design reviews and provide guidance on distributed systems, microservices and API design.
• Drive “Shift‑Left” testing, CI/CD automation and rigorous code‑review standards.
• Balance feature delivery with technical debt reduction and system scalability improvements.
• Lead Agile/Scrum execution, define road‑maps with product, design and frontend leads.
• Own service reliability in production, manage incidents and conduct effective post‑mortems.

Required profile

• 10+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong background in Java backend development.
• Proven track record of managing and scaling engineering teams.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills.
• Experience delivering secure, cloud‑native solutions in a fast‑paced environment.
