Concept Design Engineer – Automotive Lighting

About the role

We are looking for a Concept Design Engineer to lead the development of mechanical components for automotive lighting systems at our Chennai facility. The role combines product concept creation, detailed design, and validation to support HELLA’s innovative lighting solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and qualify mechanical design concepts for lighting components.
• Perform simulations, tolerance calculations and mechanical verification.
• Coordinate patent analysis and manage related documentation.
• Lead definition meetings and translate design requirements into specifications.
• Create performance specifications, cost estimates and BOM updates.
• Plan and execute design verification samples and support FMEA activities.
• Analyze verification results and conduct feasibility studies.
• Define dimensional requirements for parts, sub‑assemblies and complete devices while adhering to technical standards.

Required profile

• Diploma or post‑diploma in Tool & Die Engineering, Plastic Mold Design or related field, or a B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8‑10 years of experience in automotive lighting part design.
• Proficiency in English (written and spoken).

Required skills

• CATIA V5 for 3D modelling.
• Moldflow or similar mold‑flow simulation tools.
• Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel.
• FMEA methodology.
