Software Development Manager – AI-Powered Diagnostic Platform

About the role

Appian is seeking an elite technical leader to design, build, and ship the next generation of AI‑powered diagnostic platforms that accelerate issue resolution for enterprise customers. You will shape both technology and team culture while delivering tools critical to supporting thousands of mission‑critical deployments worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and delivery of a scalable AI‑powered triage platform that reduces mean time to resolution using AI agents, LangChain and intelligent diagnostics.
• Architect quarterly releases of diagnostic tools on AWS, balancing innovation speed with stability and security.
• Build and grow a high‑performing engineering team through hiring, mentorship and career development focused on AI and cloud‑native technologies.
• Partner with Customer Success and Product leaders to translate support pain points into engineering roadmaps that improve customer satisfaction.
• Conduct hands‑on code reviews in Python and AI frameworks, establishing best practices for the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in engineering management or technical leadership.
• Proven fluency in AI/LLM development and hands‑on experience building AI agents.
• Strong Python expertise and experience delivering production‑grade applications.
• Hands‑on experience designing and deploying scalable systems on AWS.
• Demonstrated ability to lead, hire, and mentor engineering teams.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
