Software Development Manager – AI Diagnostic Platform

About the role

Appian’s Engineering team is building AI‑powered diagnostic tools that dramatically reduce customer issue resolution time. As the Software Development Manager you will shape the technical direction and culture of a high‑autonomy team delivering next‑generation diagnostic platforms for enterprise customers worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of a scalable AI‑powered triage platform that leverages AI agents, LangChain frameworks, and intelligent diagnostics.
• Architect quarterly releases of diagnostic tools on AWS infrastructure, balancing innovation velocity with production stability and security.
• Build and grow a high‑performing engineering team through hiring, mentorship, and career development focused on AI and cloud‑native technologies.
• Partner with Customer Success and Product leadership to translate support pain points into engineering roadmaps that improve customer satisfaction.
• Drive technical excellence through hands‑on code reviews in Python and AI frameworks while establishing best practices for the team.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science or a related STEM field.
• 8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in engineering management or technical leadership.
• Proven fluency in AI/LLMs and hands‑on experience building AI agents and using LangChain or similar orchestration tools.
• Strong Python expertise with experience delivering production‑grade applications.
• Hands‑on experience designing and deploying scalable systems on AWS.
• Demonstrated people leadership, performance management, and stakeholder communication skills.
