Senior Software Engineer – Platform Engineering & AI-Powered Process Automation

About the role

Appian is looking for a senior engineer to design and build the foundational systems that power the next generation of global software execution. You will create high‑performance, reusable platform services and modern developer tooling that boost developer velocity and scale enterprise software worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Architect and construct high‑performance, resilient platform features, robust APIs and shared frameworks.
• Execute technical spikes to clear architectural runways, ensuring system stability, modularity and long‑term scalability.
• Lead rigorous code reviews, drive proactive refactoring and optimise low‑latency performance.
• Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers, fostering engineering excellence and accountability.
• Design automated workflows and self‑service platform tools to maximise developer velocity.
• Author comprehensive design documents and system guides to maintain architectural alignment across teams.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of software engineering experience in platform engineering, enterprise software design or developer enablement.
• Hands‑on experience with core backend languages such as Java, Python or Go.
• Proven background in distributed systems, microservices, modular design and high‑throughput API development.
• Strong troubleshooting and observability skills using telemetry, logging and monitoring tools.
