Principal AI Architect / Lead AI Engineer (Gen AI)

About the role

Alcon is looking for a hands‑on Principal AI Architect / Lead AI Engineer to design, develop and deploy enterprise‑scale Generative AI, Agentic AI and intelligent automation solutions. The role blends technical leadership, solution architecture and active engineering across Azure and AWS platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical design and architecture for AI initiatives while actively contributing to code, prototypes and reviews.
• Conduct feasibility studies and choose delivery approaches using No‑Code/Low‑Code (Copilot Studio, Power Platform) or Pro‑Code on AWS and Azure.
• Define scalable, secure architectures for Generative AI, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation (RAG) and multi‑agent systems.
• Establish engineering standards, testing frameworks, security controls and deployment practices.
• Partner with business stakeholders to translate requirements into end‑to‑end AI solutions and roadmaps.
• Mentor distributed engineering teams, promote best practices and continuous learning.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree with 7‑10+ years of software engineering experience.
• 3+ years leading production‑grade AI, GenAI or intelligent‑automation projects in regulated environments.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication and ability to lead distributed teams.
• Experience evaluating emerging AI technologies and defining enterprise adoption strategies.

• Microsoft Azure ecosystem – Copilot Studio, Power Platform, Azure AI services, AKS.
• AWS services – Amazon Bedrock, OpenSearch, Lambda, ECS/EKS, API Gateway, S3, CloudWatch, Step Functions.
• Generative AI, Agentic AI, Retrieval‑Augmented Generation, multi‑agent orchestration.
• AI frameworks – LangGraph, LangChain, Semantic Kernel, Model Context Protocol.
• Prompt engineering, vector databases, semantic search.
• REST APIs, microservices, event‑driven architectures, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD and DevOps practices.
