Legal Manager – Recovery & Resolution

About the role

The Legal Manager (Recovery & Resolution) leads the legal recovery function for delinquent and non‑performing asset (NPA) loan accounts within a housing finance company. The role focuses on maximizing recoveries through legal remedies, enforcement actions, settlements, and coordinated litigation across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Manage recovery of defaulted housing loans, loan‑against‑property (LAP) and other secured loan accounts classified as NPAs or written‑off.
• Formulate account‑wise recovery strategies based on borrower profile, security value, litigation status and feasibility.
• Initiate and supervise SARFAESI Act proceedings, including drafting demand, possession, sale and auction notices, and securing possession orders.
• Oversee litigation before DRT, DRAT, civil courts, high courts, NCLT/NCLAT, consumer forums and criminal courts, coordinating with empaneled advocates.
• Negotiate settlements, restructuring proposals and one‑time settlement (OTS) arrangements, evaluating legal risk and business impact.
• Coordinate asset possession, enforcement actions and property auctions, ensuring compliance with statutory timelines.

Required profile

• Proven experience in legal recovery of housing loan, LAP and other secured loan NPAs.
• Strong knowledge of SARFAESI Act, DRT proceedings, insolvency laws and RBI/NHB regulatory guidelines.
• Ability to design and implement account‑specific recovery strategies.
• Experience coordinating with external advocates, recovery agencies and regulatory authorities.
• Familiarity with litigation processes across various courts and tribunals.
