Embedded Bootloader Software Engineer – Automotive

About the role

Lead the design and development of flash bootloaders for automotive ECUs, integrating security features and ensuring compliance with AUTOSAR standards. You will work closely with cross‑functional teams and OEM customers to deliver high‑quality, ASPICE‑compliant software.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Flash Bootloaders (FBL) using ETAS RTA‑FBL or similar AUTOSAR‑compliant stacks.
• Implement security mechanisms such as HSM configuration, Secure Boot and Secure Flash to protect firmware.
• Design and integrate UDS (ISO 14229) services at the application layer for CAN‑FD and Automotive Ethernet communication.
• Configure MCAL layers for NXP S32K3xx and Renesas RH850, and integrate low‑level drivers for transceivers and SBCs.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead cross‑functional teams to achieve ASPICE compliance.
• Perform system‑level debugging with Lauterbach Trace32, Multi‑GHS and validate protocols using Vector CANoe/CANalyzer.
• Interact with project teams and OEMs for requirement clarification, field issue analysis and debugging.

Required profile

• 4‑8 years of experience in the automotive domain.
• Strong C programming skills with MISRA compliance.
• Solid understanding of embedded fundamentals and microcontroller peripherals (ADC, PWM, DAC, I2C, SPI, UART, CAN).
• Hands‑on experience with AUTOSAR, base software stacks and bootloader development.
• Familiarity with UDS protocol (ISO‑14229‑1) and requirement engineering.
• Experience with debugging tools (Lauterbach, Renesas E1/E2, GDB, T32 scripting).
• Knowledge of development life‑cycle models (V‑model, Waterfall, Agile) and ASPICE/CMMI processes.
